1984 was a busy year, filled with many of the early transitions that would define the show for the remainder of it's 1983-86 run.

Popular DJ Steve Maggioncalda had joined the show in 1983, but expanded his Sound Effects Mix Part segment into a full-blown cornerstone of the show, with live DJ beat-mixing. San Francisco radio personalities were featured as guests, and #62 was taped entirely on location at the Great America theme park.

In October, director Gerold Gorman joined the show, leading a revamp that added a visual jolt to the afterschool hangout vibe of the show. Gorman would direct live music videos to whatever song was being played.

Also in October, Ed Barber joined the show as a camera operator and began a long association with Soundwaves. He has directed every Soundwaves Christmas edition since 2006.

1984 Episodes[]

1984 was the only year in which Soundwaves aired a new show, live, once a week, every week, for 52 weeks.
